Happiness is a buzzword that is simply over-rated now-a-days. People define it by a shitload of metrics that they believe are the ways to attain happiness and spend almost the entirety of their lives stressing, worrying and striving to tick-off things from their happiness checklist, and the worst thing is that people convince themselves that these are the right metrics.
People lie to themselves for a variety of reasons such as trying to fit in, terrified of facing their own demons, afraid of evaluating their emotions, believing happiness is a luxury of the few, worrying about other’s reactions and whatnot. But, by the time they realise the real meaning behind the term ‘happiness’, it’ll already be too late.
Life, has a rather extensive way of teaching us the most important things in life, but we people, with our clouded vision, judgements, superiority complex and whatsoever never really see things through.
As life passes by in a snap we learn that real happiness, is being content, helping others, hugging our mother, accepting that hurt and pain are essential parts of our lives, being at peace with the people in our lives, making a difference, living life with love, grace and gratitude, the inner peace, the satisfaction that “I have done something worthwhile in my life that has made a difference in someone else’s life”, enjoying the little things and is definitely not partying all day, boozing, getting stoned, buying a stunning piece of jewellery, living in a Manor, owning a yacht and so forth. Learn the difference between pleasure and happiness.
Today, take a moment, take a deep breath, think about all the good things you’ve done no matter the size of its significance, the faces you’ve put a smile on, the milestones you’ve accomplished be it driving a race car or making a roti, people you’ve crossed paths with, memories you’ve made, think about all the souls that care for you, the souls you care about, comprehend your true value, how rich you really are!
And don’t stop there, start building on it, help others anywhere you get a chance, try new things, make new milestones, pour out your worries, never hold a grudge, face your emotions judiciously. Love everyone.
Like something? Share it. Hate someone? Inform them of their wrongs and try to correct them. Feeling misunderstood? Explain. Never keep your emotions bottled up. Let ‘em out then and there and you will know the real meaning of happiness. Live a happy life and not just a day.
Happiness is only real when shared. Share it with whoever is nearby and never wait for the right person to share your joy with. Happiness is a choice, not a destination. Everyone deserves to be happy. Be grateful. Live out your life graciously.
Whoever is happy will make others happy – Anne Frank
